Alamannen Museum Village
The Alamannen-Museumsdorf Mäder is dedicated to the history and culture of the Alamanni, who immigrated to Vorarlberg in the 2nd half of the 6th century AD at the latest. They subsequently shaped the language, customs and mentality of the region. A few years ago, the municipality of Mäder made an area in the village available to the Alamannische Brauchtums- und Kulturgemeinschaft (Alamannic Customs and Cultural Association), on which an Alamannic courtyard with several buildings has since been built. This open-air site is used for events and educational activities.
Museum education and nature education programmes for schools, young people and adults are organised in cooperation with the "Alamannenschule". Life at that time was firmly anchored in nature, which is expressed in all skills and traditions. By learning old crafts, dealing with plants and animals, or the world of myths, new, interesting and instructive views are taken of the familiar Vorarlberg homeland.
